This blog has proven to be rather short-lived. But fear not: the content that was supposed to be published here will still be published, only elsewhere.

The reason for that is that I’ve gotten to be the owner of my old panel van “Uncle Gerbelmann” again, albeit in the worst possible way: by its new owner’s death in a car crash. Sad as it is, this does mean I’ll have two classic Volkswagens whose slow progress on their way back on the road I will have to report on; and while I was at it, I decided to throw in my daily driver, an ‘87 VW Golf GTI 16V, in there as well and start a new blog on the three of them. Some people’s pampered classics are younger than my daily driver, after all.

That new blog lives on my panel van’s own domain gerbelmann.de. See you there!

This blog will inform anyone who’s bored enough to follow it of the slow progress in getting my ‘70 Volkswagen Convertible back on the road. Me, that’s Erik Meltzer, or Ermel for short. I live in Braunschweig, Germany. So does my convertible again, as of this year.

I’ve owned it for about 15 years now, but only drove it for the first two; it’s been in storage ever since. This year is going to change that. My (optimistic) goal is to get it running this year, and registered and street-legal for the 2011 convertible season.

So, if you feel this might be somewhat interesting, be my guest. Don’t expect daily updates though.
